No HTTP Access from host to VM

I installed Windows 2008 pro on my laptop.

I have  also installed Hyper-V and created a VM that is running Opensuse12.2.

Since you cannot use a wireless NIC directly to allow a VM access to the internet, I created

an Internal Virtual Switch and connected it to the VM.  Then used internet connection sharing to connect the virtual internal network it to the Wireless NIC.

The VM can access the internet fine.

I have two other systems on this  subnet and they can access the website on the VM fine.

I can ping the VM by hostname from the host system.

But when I try to access a website I built in the VM from the internet explorer running on the host system,   I get the "Page Cannot be Displayed" message.

Any idea how I can access the website on my VM vie internet explorer running on the host system?

What is "USC" in windows 2012 and how do I access it?

In another thread I was following a gentleman who had a Dell 410 server that would not run Hypervisor under 2012.

A respondent mentioned that instead of reloading windows 2008, running the bios upgrade software and reloading 2012, there was a USC mode that would allow the bios upgrade program to run under 2012.

If anyone knows what USC is and how I can run it, that would be a great time saver.

Hi,

I am trying to customize a VM using sysprep, and add the VM to IPV6 domain.

I have added a NIC which has all IPV6 settings.

also adding this VM to IPV6 domain.

all other settings are correct, but domain addition is not happening.

is there any specific setting or sysprep tag which can help me?

Thanks,

Imaging a system that contains VM's in Hyper-V

I have a collection on VM's in Hyper-V that I want to re-deploy on a few other systems. I couldn't find a way to do it through Hyper-V itself. I considered imaging the entire OS, however sysprep /generalize would remove the needed system specific information that the VM's use. Is there anyway around this?

in hyper-v manager the same server has 2 records (running and saved-critical)

we have a 3 node cluster shared volume. (vch1, vch2, vch3)
at the moment on node "vch3" is only 1 vm running. (the vm has 3 physical hard drives on the storage attached)

everything works fine... but:

if i look in the hyper-v manager on node "vch3"  i have the vm 2 times. it looks like:

name   state                 status
vm1     saved-critical     cannot connect to virtuell maschine configuration storage
vm1     running

i can migrate vm1 to another node and back (and the vm is runing without problems), but i have always the entry on vch3 in hyper-v manager:

vm1  saved-critical  cannot connect to virtuell maschine configuration storage in the hyper-v manager.

my question: can i delete the vm1 which is saved-critical or has it effects on the running vm1

thanks ralf

Display Network Connections in Hyper V 2012 Core Host

I installed Hyper V 2012 core. I am able to manage it remotely. Is there a GUI interface so that I can display the physical NIC adapters  like open Network Connections (Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center, or Start ncpa.cpl) from Windows 8 RSAT?

I have 4 built-in NICs and I selected NIC #2  when I created an external virtual switch but I am not sure whether it is the correct NIC.

I want to be able to name the NIC properly.

At the moment, my guest OS cannot connect to the external network and I think I chose the wrong NIC when I created the VM switch.

If no GUI, is there a power shell command to list NIC and know which NIC is active and rename them?

Più di 4 processori virtuali in Hyper-v 2008

Salve,

ho visto in rete che modificando il file di configurazione delle VM è possibile assegnare ad un VM più di 4 processori virtuali, la mia domanda è, questi riescono poi ad essere effettivamente sfruttati?

Grazie

Some CSVs are going offline when specific Hyper-V hosts owns the CSV

Some CSVs are going offline after some while. Then I move the CSV to another owner and then it sometimes works. Sometime I also need to move the owner of the Virtual Guest. Often it is the same CSVs.

Hyper-V 2012 VM replication as a Sharepoint 2010 DR solution

Has anyone considered using the new replication features of Hyper-V 2012 as a DR/HA solution for a Sharepoint 2010 farm? Is this possible? Good idea? Bad idea?

Attach HP P2000 G3 FC SAN to HP DL 380p GEN 8 Server with Windows Server 2012 Server core and Hyper-v

Hello,

My setup is (HP SAN---->HP SERVER) without an FC switch, i am directly connecting the HBA to my FC controller on the SAN,

In my Hyper-v HOST machine i can see the WWN and i am able to create a Virtual SAN using the Virtual SAN manager, But when i try to add and FC adapter to my hyper-v guest running windows Server 2012 it errors out with the following error

NPIV virtual port operation on virtual port (c003ff555df0002) failed. The operation is not supported by the fabric.

Do i need a FC switch in the middle, since I was running a POC i though it is not needed at all. But now with the NPIV error  i cant figure out.

Again my Guest is able to see the WWN and WWP but as soon as i add the hardware to my VM and start it fails??????

Cheers

What it the best way to setup Hyper-V using Windows 2012 utilizing multiple network card

I have currently have the following setup but want to know if I am correct

Network Teaming in Windows three nic’
               Switch Independent
               Hyper-V Port

Then in the Hyper-V Manager made a virtual switch using the nic team made in windows

Rename virtual machine network adapter with identical name

My Virtual machine hosted on Windows 2012 Hyper V have 2 network cards :

Name            IsManagementOs               VMName     SwitchName
----            -------------- ------               ----------       ----------
Network Adapter False                             VM1            LAN1
Network Adapter False                             VM1            LAN2

I would like to rename one of the network card to be able to assign to one of the network card a VirtualSubnetID.

The Rename-VMNetworkAdapter command don't made the difference with my 2 cards because they have the same name :

Rename-VMNetworkAdapter -name "Network Adapter" -vmname "VM1" -NewName "Network Adapter 2 "-id "Private Mutualia" -vmname "ff1.cesia.fr" -NewName "Private Mutualia2"

How can i rename only one network adapter ?

Tks for your help !

I have a Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V CSV cluster with 4 nodes. I have a EMC VNX SAN and I publish some LUNs to the Hyper-V cluster.
Suddenly one day I cannot load the disk configuration when I click on Disk Management. All CSVs are online and everyting are working but I can't bring a new published LUN online because I can't load the disks in disk management.
Any suggestions.

MAC issue (Event 28, but not the usual scenario).

Hi Guys,

I got the following error on an HP ML180 g6 server which hosts a single 2003 guest:

Port 'SWITCHPORT-SM-9A3E1BCC-1D22-42EA-BA42-3DCC42C9EC53-0-1' was prevented from using MAC address '00-15-5D-64-08-01' because it is pinned to port '39CFB32B-2760-461D-B'.

No changes were made to either of the servers or to their near environment - after almost a year and a half of flawless operation, this issue came completely out of the blue.

I tried recreating the virtual network, updating network drivers and even removing and adding the Hyper-V role again, but the issue wasn't resolved.

I then moved the 2003 guest to another HP ML350 g5 server, and I get the same error.

HP servers' NICs are NOT teamed, and I disabled all TCP/UDP offloading.

What might it be?...

EDIT: both hosts are 2008 R2

Windows Server 2012 - Can occasionally not access second virtual hard drive inside a VM

0
0

I run Windows Server 2012 RTM Hyper-V and I can occasionally not access the second virtual hard drive (dynamically expanding VHDX) attached to the VM through the virtual SCSI controller. I can however access the first hard drive that is connected with the virtual IDE controller.

I get the following warning in the event log under “Administrative Events” every 30 seconds when this happens:

  • Log Name: System
  • Source: Storvsc
  • ID: Storvsc
  • Message: “Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.”

I get this error once or twice a week and it has caused serious problems since one of the virtual servers that have this problem is a fileserver and the second hard drive contains all the data.

The only quick solution to the problem that I have found is to force the virtual machine to stop using the “Turn Off” feature since a normal shut down does not work (stops at shutting down the event log or similar) and then start the virtual machine again.

You can also wait for about 30 minutes or longer until the disk for some reason becomes accessible again by itself.

My research into this problem shows that:

  • Only 2 of the 10 VMs running Windows Server 2012 RTM that I have, have this problem.
  • Both these VMs have a second virtual hard drive (dynamically expanding VHDX) that cannot be accessed for 30 minutes or longer.
  • Check Disk of the virtual hard drive shows no errors.
  • The second hard drive is attached to the virtual SCSI controller.
  • I can find no problems at all with the physical storage on the (not related) 4 hosts that I have. The problem exists only in the VMs.

I have now attached the second virtual hard drive to the virtual IDE controller to see if this permanently fixes this problem (i.e. does not happen for at least a week).

Is there something wrong with the virtual SCSI controller or the virtual SCSI device driver that comes with Windows Server 2012 RTM? Does anyone else have this problem?

I deleted top snap(oldest) and the entire subtree beneath it--all snaps were deleted. Why is there no merging process?

When I deleted the top snap and the entire subtree of snaps beneath it there appeared to be no merging process.  The reboot occurred almost immediately without the usual merging of the snaps.  Am I missing something or did removing all the snaps allow for a restart without any merging of snaps--since all were deleted.

Dynamic Memory Hyper - V 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 Not Working

0

Hello,

I working with approxmiatly 10 VM on my Hyper-V server running under 2008 r2 Enterprise SP1.

I have a Win8 VM that is able to utilize the dynamic memory with no extra setup.

I have a 2008 R2 Enterprise Sp1 that utilizes Dynamic Memory. (Don't understand why only this one works)

Then I have 10 other VMs that all have 2008 r2 Enterprise SP1 and NONE of them will utilize Dynamic Memory. They are all set at a flat memory.

I have dropped the minimum memory to 256mb and ran multiple RAM heavy applications and never see the dynamic memory kick in.

I have fully updated the Hyper-V Host and Guest OSs. I have tried to reinstall Intergratrion Services multiple times on multiple VMs.

I have created fresh installs of the 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 and still no results.

If anyone could help shed some light on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.
