Dell R510 PERC H700: 8 virtual disks in total. System drive\OS on RAID1, other 7 VD on 4 SAS 600GB as RAID10
Host has 48Gb ram and is running dual Xeon E5645 CPU's
Read Policy: Adaptive Read Ahead
Write Policy: Write Back
Disk Cache Pol: Disabled
OS: W2K8 R2 ENT, Hyper-V + failover clustering
Each VM hosted in separate volume on RAID 10, SIOS DataKeeper Cluster Edition replicating the 7 volumes to two identical R510's
VM's: One Exchange 2010, one SQL2005, Citrix Server, File and Print (Os mixes of W2K8 and W2K3 64 Bit) plus a couple of other application servers.
Problem:
I am seeing very high average disk queue lengths in all the 7 VM's (maxing at 100 in performance monitor) whenever I try and do large(ish) file transfers (2Gb plus) whereas if I file transfer between the hyper-v hosts on their RAID1 disks and outside of the hypervisor layer, I see pretty respectable throughput and no maxing out on average queue lengths
Other symptoms: Exchange VM slows right down if anyone emails attachments of say +7Mb.
File and Print Server VM, long time to enumerate folder structures etc...
I've tried updating BIOS, RAID f/ware Broadcom network adapters (against my better judgement I've got a Broadcom LACP team upto my switch for VM LAN access). I'm also seeing pretty sluggish throughput with IPERF from other LAN computers into the Hyper-V VM's
Edited to add: have migrated one VM to a Hyper-V node in the cluster with no other VM's running, give the VM a load more RAM and still seeing same problem
Kind of running out of ideas here, any help appreciated
why
While creating new VHD from same host and different storage owner it is taking lengthy time to create VHD and if we are creating VHD from same Host/same storage owner its creating very fast.

Dear All
I am using windbg to debug NT kernel, and my debugger machine and debuggee machine both are Hyper-V VM.
So I want to connect two Hyper-V VMs through a serial port, but I dont know how to do that, would you please help?
I am running a esxi lab within hyper-v and the vms within this do not want to connect to the network. I have been told that I need to enable promiscuous mode on the virtual switch and I can't find the option anywhere. I cannot get guest OSes to connect to the network under the vmware vsphere.
Is there any way to enable this? Please respond. Thank you.
i have 2 hots and 8 guests. i want to take backup of my vm any tool to do hot-backups. i want to take backup of my vm servers without shutting them
is any too to perform such tasks.

Hello,
Good Day.
Currently i had a few server that running on Hyper-V (Windows Server 2008). Currently the Virtual Server was running on same NIC with Physical NIC. We had plan to change to virtual NIC to point to other physical NIC (seperate from Hyper-V host). I had a few concern on this. Appreciate if some body can help to explain in details on it.
1).is there any downtime/network disconnected on the virtual server if we change the virtual NIC to point to other physical NIC?
2). is the configuration need the Server (hyper-V host/virtual) to be restart after done the setting?
Looking forward to hear from expertise and specialist in here.
Thank you.

After 8 hours searching and trying im still unable to connect. (only thing that works is connecting wih rdp)
what do i need to do so that i can connect to my hyper-v server (with hyper v manager on my client) and start using it?
i have found this

but uits not clear to me what to do where.
same for this:

I am using Windows 8 Pro (with Hyper-V Role) and have created a Guest Virtual Machine for Windows 2012.
I am surprised to see that the Guest Virtual Machine Connection only has one way to send Clipboard text. Wish the Clipboard menu was complete to support copy/paste both ways.
How does one transfer clipboard text from guest to Host. Please note that I have not setup networking on my Guest.
Thanks & Regards,

Hello,
How Do I move a VM into Failover Cluster Manager when Configure a Service or App cannot find the machine? The VM is shutdown, no snapshots, was created in HyperV Manager but when trying to add the machine to Failover Cluster it is unable to locate the VM
Envirnoment is Windows 2008r2 Cluster
I have been asked to provide some comparative costs for either a VMWare upgrade to vSphere 5.1 compared to a migration to Hyper-V. Has any body got any experience / advice on this?
Tools required?
V2V time scales?
Risks?
Windows 2012 Hyper V v3 Hardware compatibility?
I am new to Windows programming. I am trying to small develop an application that manage the network settings for Virtual machines in Hyper-V using WMI (C++). I have trying
to create an external-only network port (Virtual Network) invoking the following Methods on WMI Class Msvm_
1. CreateSwitch -> returns reference to the created Msvm_VirtualSwitch
2. BindExternalEthernetPort -> it binds to the NIC port
3. CreateSwitchPort -> using Msvm_VirtualSwitch created in step 1. This method returns reference to Msvm_SwitchPort.
4. ConnectSwitchPort -> passing Msvm_LANEndpoint (associated to Msvm_VirtualSwitch created in step 1) and create Msvm_SwitchPort.
I am able to successfully create the External Virtual Network on Windows 2k8R2 but the step 3 is failing on Windows 2k12.
The CreateSwitchPort method return value is 32768.
How can I find the reason for failure? Why is this happening of Windows 2k12 when the same code works perfectly fine on 2k8R2?
Any help in the regard is appreciated.

I have an flat qcow2 image which i want to convert to .vhd format to boot from Hyper-V which is installed on Windows 2008 Server.
I used WinImage to Convert flat qcow2 to vhd.
While Importing vhd from the Hyper-v, It says " A server error occurred while attempting to import the virtual machine. " also says " The operation was passed an invalid parameters"
My question are
1) Can't we import a vhd format directly without having an .exp file
2) If we can't import, how can i generate an .exp file so that i can import the image (.vhd) successfully
Thanks

Hello,
I'm having a problem and any help would be useful.
I have a VM Windows Server 2012 running under a hyper-V on my Windows 8 host computer. On my server I have a MS SQL Server 2012 Database.
On Hyper-v I have 3 networks configured
1 - internal, so I can access database and share filesbetween the host and the MV.
2 - external, allowing traffic with wired adapter.
3 - external, sharing internet by wireless adapter.
I also have a Hamachi VPN so i can remote access my DataBase and here is the source of my problems.
When I try to remote access my DataBase it works, but I have to be logged on the server without locking the server. Also, one more detail is that the connection on Hamachi in VM only works, if my Host computer is also logged on Hamachi. Anyone knows how I can correct that?
Another problem occurs when I try to run my WPF application. I can connect to the database but i constantly get timeout. I'm under one of the best domestics internets in Brazil, so it's not the internet. Anyone knows why that is happening?
One more detail is that the VM could not create a direct tunnel between the clients, but the clients can create a direct tunnel with the VM.
Thanks all for the help,
Felipe Santiago
Hii
I have 2 hyper-v host with Server Srv2k8r2-Sp1. both hosts in "WORKGROUP" i want to export hyper-v guest to another host is this possible. i don't want to join them to my domain. my domain is also virtual in 1 host.
O.K., I must be missing the obvious.
I'm using Hyper-V 2012, and I'm ready to create a new VM.
When I'm presented the option to create a new hard drive for my new VM, it has the .vhd extension and not a .vhdx.
Am I missing something? Do I just manually rename it to have a new_disk.vhdx extension?

I have two server 2012 std machines, I have enabled replication on the replica server, and I am trying to enable replication on one of the VM's on the primary server. I get this error:
I have verified that the replica server is enabled as a replica server
I have enabled delegation for each of the server respectively. The Firewall is turned off. I am not sure what to do next to troubleshoot this issue.
Thanks for the help.

Is there any "best practices" as it relates to security for a Server 2012 Hyper-V host?
It seems like the general consensus is to NOT run an antivirus (if you do - there's a lot of exemptions you'll want to make so your VM performance doesn't nose-dive) on the HOST (but you would, of course, on the VMs themselves), but I'm wondering of there are other specifics to really "harden" the host and reduce its attack surface?
